We installed the Backyard Discovery Paxton 4-Person Sauna this winter, and living in the Midwest, it has been one of the best additions to our home. When the temperatures drop and the snow starts piling up, stepping into the warmth of this sauna feels like pure luxury.

What I love most is how it brings a bit of Finnish culture into our backyard. The ritual of heating up the sauna, sitting in the deep, dry heat, and then stepping outside into the cold air feels both invigorating and grounding—exactly the way sauna was meant to be experienced. There’s something incredibly satisfying about going from a 180° sauna into crisp Midwestern winter air.

The Paxton sauna is the perfect size for our family or a small group of friends. Four adults can sit comfortably, and the layout makes it easy to relax without feeling cramped. The wood interior gives it that authentic sauna feel and smell, which really adds to the experience.

It also holds heat impressively well—even on the coldest Midwest days. Once it’s warmed up, the temperature stays consistent and creates that deep, enveloping heat that sauna lovers appreciate.

Assembly took some time, but the instructions were clear and the quality of the materials was solid. Once it was up and running, it quickly became part of our winter routine.

Bought this for my wife and I for Christmas. The instructions on setting it up were very good and we had no issues getting it together! heats up fast even in our 20 degree weather. Was well worth the money and has a great warranty. The quality is great also

Best sauna for the price!

I received this sauna as a Christmas gift and absolutely love it. I use it all the time. I usually set it to 180°F and it reaches about 140°F in roughly 15 minutes, then climbs to 180°F fairly quickly. It seems to connect more reliably through the phone app than the manual controller, which is the only reason I removed one star. Other than that, I’m extremely happy with it and really enjoying it.

Excellent Sauna Overall

A couple years ago, we purchased a sauna online in effort to help survive the long midwest winters. It seemed like a great idea but then it arrived. The roof did not properly sit on the walls, the heater took way too long to get hot, and then the door would let all the heat out anyway. Then we had to go through the hassle of returning the thing. 

Fast forward a couple of years and we began to be interested in trying to find a sauna again. We were recommended the Paxton by a couple we knew, and following an exhausting amount of research, we took the leap and purchased the Paxton. 

We have never been happier and will never look back. The sauna is ready in minutes and stays warm despite the sub zero temperatures that we have. I can turn the sauna on from my phone which means we only have to brave the short walk outside. The construction is high quality, sturdy, and is going strong despite near daily use. Our family is feeling healthier, happier, and now making the best of the winter with this sauna. We give it all the stars and then some!

AMAZING! The barrel sauna is so beautifully crafted and rich looking. The details in this product are so good, each piece is of the highest quality. We love the way it looks from the outside to the inside of the barrel. The connection to our devices to heat it up from inside the house is such a nice touch. We are incredibly happy with our purchase. Highly recommend.

Great features!

We love our Outdoor Barrel Sauna! The delivery was easy, the installation was a process but it had clear instructions and was fun to build, and the finished sauna looks great. Since installing it, we have used it just about every day and absolutely love it, it's made us intentionally disconnect from electronics and have a dedicated time and space to connect.

Love our Sauna

What a nice product. I purchased an outdoor kitchen, 2 carports, and a Paxton barrel sauna (still assembling) all from Backyard Discovery.  Tried the outdoor kitchen first and liked it so much we just kept going. The installation instructions made it a cinch. Sealed with linseed oil and sauna oil which brought out the beautiful color.

Couldn't Be More Happier!

I do love the sauna!  It looks amazing and was easy to assemble. My only issue is that the wifi will not connect even though th sauna is 10 feet from my router. The Bluetooth won’t stay connected either. The heater gets to target quickly and i am happy with this. My only issue is the connection issues with BT and wifi.

Great product that has made my neighbors jealous!

I bought on New years eve and had it installed immediately. I love the size. If I was able to get the app to connect to my sauna I would give this 5 Stars. My husband and I use it multiple times a week the only thing is not being able to use the app. Delivery was excellent and the BYD team has contacted me throughout my journey honestly one of my best gifts to myself.

Sanctuary

Overall a good sauna. The only caveats are the wifi/Bluetooth module is inside a farday cage metal box on the outside of the unit. Couldn't get it to work at all more than 5ft away from it. And the LED light, you can't hardwire to the main board even though it has an option for light terminals. You need to install an outlet next to it to use the light. This is an extreme annoyance and overlooked completely by the engineering team. Seems rushed to market in a way.
